This standard establishes uniform procedures for the preparation of Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).

MIL-STD-963 provides guidance for preparing Data Item Descriptions, documents that define the data required of a contractor. The document specifically defines the data content, format, and intended use of such information.

There are two types of DID's -- Ones for one time use and ones for repetitive acquisition use.
