Scope

This standard specifies the general requirements and specific tasks for reliability testing during the development, qualification, and production of systems and equipment.

In 1986 MIL-STD-781D not only replaced MIL-STD-781C, but also MIL-STD-1635 and MIL-STD-2068.  The Cancellation Notice in 1996 directed the user to MIL-HDBK-781A, which contains the test methods, etc., but does not have any contractual implications.
