ASTM-F2331 › Standard Test Method for Determining Chemical Compatibility of Substances in Contact with Thermoplastic Pipe and Fittings Materials
The following bibliographic material is provided to assist you with your purchasing decision:
Scope
1.1 This test method is used for determining chemical compatibility of thread sealant compounds with threaded pipe and fittings materials. This procedure is generally applicable to thread sealant compounds which are either hard-cure, soft-cure or non-hardening paste at room temperatures (i.e. non-liquid or semi-liquid).
1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Significance and Use
These procedures can be used to evaluate thread sealants relative to causing environmental stress-cracking in thermoplastic materials. This testing results in determining time-to-failure vs. engineering stress. This procedure can also be used in stress-rupture regression analysis, where a variety of stress levels are needed. The methodology can be readily adapted to conducting immersion tests in liquids.
